What comes to your mind when you hear the term heater? Well it
could be anything, right. There are various types of heaters, which
differ in the way they work, their size, purpose and in many other
aspects. Selecting a heater will greatly depend on the various types of
heaters available that you happen to know.
You have heard about the electric water heaters, which essentially are constructed with a bit of wire rich in resistance. It warms water through contact although the wires should not get into direct contact. Silica is used to ensure they are safer from perils of electric shocks. You have to upgrade to some more energy-efficient such as the solar heaters if your electric heater is not working well since these can save you a lot of money on electricity bills.
There is the electric heater or the electric stove heater; they convert electric energy to heat. The resistance element is the metals involved. The way heat will be distributed will depend on the model of the heater. Electric heaters are fairly safe to use and they do not cost much as well as their maintenance cost is low.
Some heaters such as the convection heaters will heat the air and eventually heating the whole house through conduction of the heat. Infrared heaters on the other end heat objects in a room directly. Heat pumps are a type of heaters that suck heat from outside and transfer it to the inside of a room.
Convection heaters are a kind of heaters operated by a resistor that opposes the flow of electricity. The electrical energy turns into heat so that as it flows within the metal, it heats it up. Convection heaters heat air above them directly, the air moves up and spreads out into the room. Some heaters such as the forced air convection heaters heat air by coming into contact with the heated coil. This air spreads out into the room and this way the whole room will get heated.
Radiative heaters are another type of heaters that use high temperature elements as compared to convection heaters. They are cheaper and economical. These elements are encased in a protective covering which prevent the heat from escaping. This keeps the heating elements very hot. They are ideal for heating objects directly as compared to heating of air. They are ideal for heating places which require short durations of time such as instant bathroom water heaters.
There are also heat pumps that use a pump to drive a liquid through two sets of coils. This liquid is called a refrigerant. It flows through a condenser coil inside the house, where most of the heat is transferred into the air. This in event warms the room and cools the refrigerant at the same time.
The refrigerant will get decompressed within the evaporator coil outside the house. Heat from the outside warms the refrigerant again and again it flows to the compressor. This cycle of taking air inside from outdoors and moving it inside continues until the whole house gets heated. They are cheap, efficient and do both cooling and heating of the house.
