One third to one half of all children are overweight or obese . This is an alarming statistic because of the impact on health . Overweight children tend to have the lowest self-esteem than their peers with normal weight . In addition , being overweight can affect your health now and in adulthood , because it shows that obese children tend to become obese adults .
BMI ( body mass index ) is a widely used tool in otsenkevesa children when considering the size and age . BMI does not directly determine the fat , but reliable predictors of high levels of fat in the body .
Once it has been determined by BMI , which can be compared with the standards for different age groups provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention . This comparison will give a " BMI percentile " to place the child's weight in the range :
• Underweight ( less than 5th percentile )
• Healthy weight ( 5th to 85th percentile low )
• Overweight ( 85 to less than 95 percentile
• Obesity ( 95th percentile or higher )
If the BMI percentile indicates "overweight " or " obese " , the doctor may perform a more thorough examination to determine whether BMI or fat if high because of the structural composition of the natural girl . Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends screening for weight problems began two years .
It is important that parents and guardians do not make the mistake of applying the data from their own adult children . The figures were calculated in the same way , but the " rules of interpretation " is different in children . Weight and height of children is constantly changing , and only a doctor can determine whether the rate is bad for your baby .
